Virtual Reality Lab

Eye Hospital, UMC Ljubljana
Leader: Assist. Prof. Ana Fakin, PhD. MD., Specialist in ophthalmology, FEBO

The laboratory was established in 2021 with the aim of introducing modern methods that combine virtual reality with biometrics to investigate visual function in healthy people and patients with various visual impairments.
The laboratory is located at the premises of the National Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired (NCRSS) (head: Prof. Dr. Nataša Vidović Valentinčić, MD, PhD), which is a part of the Eye Hospital Ljubljana, which enables the direct inclusion of patients referred to the NCRSS in studies, which are carried out in the Laboratory.

Equipment:

The virtual reality laboratory is equipped with hardware and software, including three powerful computers, two virtual reality glasses with biometrics (HP Reverb G2 Omnicept), visual field test software (IC TEST), facial recognition research software (IC FACES), pupillometry software (IC PUPILLOMETRY) and eye movement analysis software (IC FUSION).

Current studies:

1. Examination of the field of vision with virtual reality glasses in patients with retinitis pigmentosa and other forms of visual impairment

2. Face recognition in patients with age-related macular degeneration and other forms of visual impairment
